Data Loss Victims Being Targeted:
Criminals appear to be targeting some of the 25 million people, whose confidential details were on computer discs lost by HM Revenue and Customs in UK in 2007.
Security company McAfee discovered a phishing attack claiming to offer people the chance to get a tax refund of £215.
The scam email contains a link to a suspect website.
Greg Day, security analyst at McAfee, said the company had closed the website down but warned the criminals could set up another website and continue trying to con people whose details were on the computer discs.

XP Web Services adds:
As you have seen from our other articles on internet security, there are people out there trying to con people out of their money. And we are sad to say sometimes they are successful in this.
We have actually received 1 of these emails and whilst they look convincing, the main question you need to remember here, is are you due a tax refund?
In some cases you may well be, but we seriously advise that if you recieve any email such as the one mentioned above, then you need to phone HM Revenue and Customs straight away. Get their phone number from Google or another search engine. Certainly do not phone the number provided in the email.
HM Revenue and Customs will normally send a letter to your home address in relation to any dealings with your tax, as they are aware of phishing email scams.
So please be vigilant and if you do receive one of these emails, or something similar then please DO NOT submit any details on the website they ask you to visit. Contact the actual offices of HM Revenue and Customs and they will be more than happy to help you.
The old adage is true, that if it looks too good to be true, then it normally is.
